Windows HEIC guide

How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 10 or Windows 11

Windows can view HEIC files in some cases, but JPG is still the safer format for websites, email, documents, older apps, and shared folders. These options help you make JPG copies without giving up your original HEIC photos.

Fastest Method: Convert in Your Browser

  1. Open the HEIC to JPG converter: Go to UnHEIC in a Windows browser such as Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Brave.
  2. Select your HEIC photos: Drag .heic or .heif files into the upload area, or choose them from File Explorer.
  3. Convert locally: Run the conversion in your browser. The photos stay on your Windows device.
  4. Download JPG copies: Download a single JPG or use bulk conversion to download all converted photos as a ZIP file.

This method is best when you need quick JPG copies and do not want to install a desktop converter. It also works for shared or locked-down Windows computers where installing software is not practical.

Windows Photos Method

If your PC already has Microsoft HEIF Image Extensions installed, you may be able to open HEIC photos in the Windows Photos app. From there, use Save as, Export, or Print to PDF depending on your Windows and Photos app version. This can work for one-off images, but browser or bulk conversion is usually faster for folders of iPhone photos.

Windows 10 vs Windows 11

VersionWhat to Know
Windows 10HEIC preview often needs Microsoft HEIF extensions. Browser conversion avoids extension setup and creates JPG files directly.
Windows 11HEIC support is better, but JPG is still more compatible for uploads, attachments, and non-Microsoft apps.

When to Use Bulk Conversion

Use bulk HEIC to JPG when you imported a full iPhone photo folder, need JPG images for a website, or want to send a ZIP of compatible files. For hundreds of photos, use smaller batches so the browser has enough memory.
