iPhone HEIC guide
How to Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default when High Efficiency capture is enabled. HEIC saves storage, but JPG is easier to upload, email, print, and open on older devices. Use this guide to convert existing photos or change future camera captures.
Convert Existing HEIC Photos to JPG
- Open the converter in Safari: Open UnHEIC on your iPhone and choose the HEIC to JPG converter.
- Select HEIC photos: Tap the upload area and choose photos from your library or Files app.
- Convert to JPG: Run the conversion in Safari. The photo is converted locally in your browser.
- Save or share the JPG: Download the JPG file and share it with apps, websites, or people who cannot open HEIC.
This is useful when a form, website, printer, older Windows PC, or Android app rejects HEIC uploads. The original HEIC photo remains in your library; you create a compatible JPG copy.
Save Future iPhone Photos as JPG
To make new camera photos save as JPEG instead of HEIC, open Settings, go to Camera, choose Formats, then select Most Compatible. This affects future photos and videos. It does not convert photos already saved as HEIC.
