Convert selected HEIC photos in Safari
The browser workflow creates new output files; it does not replace the original item in the Photos library. Mobile Safari has a tighter practical memory ceiling than a desktop browser.
- Open HEIC to JPG in Safari and choose photos from the picker.
- Review the total decoded-work estimate before preparing the batch.
- Choose an email, social, document or web preset—or set quality and dimensions manually.
- Check orientation previews, convert, then save the JPG output from the download.
Capture future photos as JPEG
Open Settings, choose Camera, then Formats, and select Most Compatible. Apple may change labels between iOS versions, but the choice trades the smaller HEIC default for broadly compatible JPEG capture.
This setting affects future captures. It does not convert the HEIC photos already in your library.
Sharing may create a compatible copy
Some Apple share paths convert automatically depending on the destination and the “Transfer to Mac or PC” setting. Because that behavior is destination-dependent, verify the received file rather than assuming the extension or metadata outcome.
Browser-workbench limitations
- The current browser decoder does not copy source EXIF, GPS, capture date or embedded ICC metadata.
- iOS may suspend a tab under memory pressure; process fewer large photos at a time.
- The prepared preview is the orientation check before download; manual rotate and flip are available.
- Downloaded files may appear in Files or the browser download list before you save them into Photos.
